MURATIE CANVAS, STELLENBOSCH

Rael & Mikaela

When we first met Rael and Mikaela, we instantly connected… Mikaela, petite and graceful with long golden hair, ethereal in every way possible. And Rael, as suave as suave can be – cool, calm and collected, never missing a beat. We loved them both immediately!

Being based in London didn’t stop them being completely involved in every detail of their day which we completely adored. Together, we embarked on their Wedding Journey with pure excitement as they had plans to do something intimate, distinctive and just generally awesome for their Wedding Day and we were more than up for it! As soon as we finalised a date, being New Year’s Eve, we knew it was going to be an epic journey…

The first thing we did was endeavour to find a venue not yet found by the masses. This meant days of site visits to the most incredible (and most random) places across the Western Cape. Road-tripping on a whole new level! When we eventually came across Muratie Canvas on Muratie Wine Estate just outside of Stellenbosch, it was love at first sight for us all! With around 180 guests, the venue was a perfect fit and lent itself to the Couple’s look and feel entirely – secluded, incredibly beautiful and very new to the wedding scene.

When it came to the look and feel of the wedding, Mikaela and Rael wanted to create a simple, laid back environment for their Guests to enjoy however, also wanted a level of refinement and elegance. With the Chuppah being the main focus, and our aim to light up the Marquee – our targets were set and the pictures say it all!

Before we knew it, after a year of planning that went by in an instant, the day of the Wedding was upon us… Rael soon arrived flanked by his dapper groomsmen and embarked on their Grooms Table in a secluded spot on the Estate. Mikaela, draped in the most incredibly beautiful, ballerina-like Wedding dress we have ever seen, appeared soon after with her Bridesmaids. Settling into the historic Muratie Wine Cellar to prepare for the intimate Bedeken, the ladies began their blessings. The singing of the men echoed through the Cellar as they approached for what had to be our most favourite moment. There was not a dry eye in sight…!

The Chuppah took place in the Garden underneath an ancient Camphor Tree which cast a bountiful shade on the seating area. The Chuppah Structure, adorned in masses and masses of Gypsophila and crowned with a family heirloom tallis, took on the form of a floating cloud, billowing with floral – something out of a dream! Mikaela also wore a halo of Gypsophila adding to her incredible, ballerina-inspired dress…
After the Chuppah, Guests were led up to the Terrace where Pre-Dinner Drinks awaited them. Numerous food stations were strewn with a selection of Mikaela and Rael’s favourite dishes -months of designing the menu with the Slippery Spoon Team truly paid off! Each dish was expertly paired with a natural wine specifically and personally selected by the Couple.

As the sun began to set behind Table Mountain, Guests were invited to the Muratie Canvas for the Reception to begin. But first, Horas! The open-air dancefloor was ready and waiting for Guests to celebrate with DJ Nate behind the decks.

After a moment to catch their breath, Guests made their way into the exquisite clear-span marquee lit by hundreds of candles and fairy lights. The reflection was breath-taking… Not a single flower in sight, the entire space alight with ambience and romance. A Feast to the Table commenced and Guests were regaled with heartfelt speeches taking them to the edge of the New Year. Mikaela and Rael led Guests to the dancefloor with a glittering mask in one hand and a sparkler in the other for their first dance as Mr and Mrs Sarembock.
Dancing their way into 2020 surrounded by vineyards, mountains and their closest friends and family – what more could one ask for…?
